After a few very busy days due to other projects and the real life I hope I can release AIOS 0.6.4 in the next 48 hours. So here is the last dev. build.
added- brazilian portuguese (pt-BR) localization (thanks to E.R.D'Avila)
- chinese traditional (zh-TW) localization (thanks to Willy Young, Unicorn2)
- advanced option for the configuration of download links (extensions/themes)
- new actions for the "Top/Bottom" button
- Ctrl/Alt/Shift + Left-click => Go up one page
- Ctrl/Alt/Shift + Right-click => Go down one page
changed or improved- improvements of the slim lists (downloads/extensions/themes)
- changed the hover color of the grippy for better distinction
- changed default shortcuts
- GoUp (URL-Tools) - Ctrl+Shift+F1
- Download Embedded Files - Ctrl+Shift+F2
- Load Page from Google's Cache - Ctrl+Shift+F3
- Search Page at Wayback Machine - Ctrl+Shift+F4
- Show Domain Dossier (WhoIs?) - Ctrl+Shift+F5
- changed some default settings and menu entry arrangements
- minor improvements
fixed- installation of extensions should now work in any case (perhaps you have to uninstall and reinstall AIOS)
- the sidebar switch will restore correctly, even after twice toggle between fullscreen and maximized window mode
- the button "Top/Bottom" will work with frame pages, if the scrollable frame has the focus
- fully compatible with Stop-or-Reload Button
- various minor bug fixes
Download AIOS 0.6.4rc4 [2006-01-22]
right-click and choose the option "Save Link As"

Thanks for the great work.
Now it's the question when a new version with new features like hide sidebar will be released?

The work on AIOS 0.7 will start in the middle of the next week, if AIOS 0.6.4 is really stable on all systems (I hope this and I believe this ). One big new feature for the next version will be the long awaited autohide. I can't tell you a release date, but I really think that 0.7 will see the daylight in February.

Sorry, but I will not add this feature into AIOS. But perhaps you can use Searchbar Autosizer, Hide Searchbar or ResizeSearchBox. All these extensions are also listed on erweiterungen.de.

Looking for two things in 0.7 |

Well, besides the wonderful things you already have, am looking for two things...
1. Sidebar UNDER the tab bar (its in your To-Do I guess)
2. 2-Pane Bookmarks sidebar (Please add this to your To-Do)
That will be just perfect for me atleast.

Yes, it's on the to-do-list. I already tried some methods to implement this and saw that it would be very difficult to realise this feature. Perhaps it's impossible...
aronin wrote:2. 2-Pane Bookmarks sidebar (Please add this to your To-Do)
Probably I will add this to the to-do-list. But I think it will not be implemented in AIOS 0.7. But perhaps... Who knows...

3) Don't make it too bloated Please (I was happy you took out the stop/reload thing for instance - anything that doesn't have to do with the sidebar)

That is a good desire. I will try to fulfill it...
Do you think AIOS has too many features? If yes, which? Please tell me your real opinion... I think I should start a general discussion about this, because AIOS gets more and more features.

Hmm.. not too many yet I think, but I prefer to have a stable, easy to maintain (for you - so you won't give up when it becomes to hard to maintain ), small and useful extension to many over an unstable, hard to maintain, complicated, large extension with all kinds of features only useful to some. I think an extension should have focus (in your case on the sidebar) and that obscure features which are not requested by many users should be made separate extensions. That will improve the speed and stability of Firefox as well.
I just had a look at the options of your extension and the only things I wasn't clearly seeing as "sidebar features" were:
- Go to Top of Page
- Go to Bottom of Page
- URL-Tools
- Download Embedded Files (tho I would hate to see this go as I use it a LOT)
- Load Page from Google's Cache
- Search Page at Wayback Machine
- Show Domain Dossier (WhoIs?)
Those are more "page tools" and not "sidebar options"

Yes, you're right except for this:
Change wrote:- Download Embedded Files (tho I would hate to see this go as I use it a LOT)
And I don't think so, because you use it a lot - it's a feature of the downloads sidebar.
But I really have to think about the consistently removal of all features, which has nothing to do with the sidebar before releasing AIOS 1.0. This would affect also some toolbar options like toolbars on the statusbar, on the tabbar and some other features. That is not decided yet, but in progress...

... but please, don't remove stuff that is not covered by already existing extensions (and NOT colliding with aios )... that would be a step back...
... or at least add this removed stuff in the form of another, independent extension ("toolbars' tweaks" are a perfect example for that)

Yes, I also think that the page tools should be removed from aios, because they are not related to it.
But please keep them in a small extra extention - they are really fine!!!!
(Maybe it can added to another extention, e.g. FireFoxMenuButtons or so)
But I think that also the "Download Embedded Files"-feature should be in this extra extention. (I also like it very much, but it is a download feature - not a direct sidebar feature)
But 2 Pane Bookmarks should be integrated - it belongs direct to the sidebar.
(I think a small icon between the search box and the "Extras und Optionen"-button, which allows to swich this feature, will be good)
Maybe ez sidebar should also be integrated to aios, because it is a real sidebar-feature (maybe this is not so important :)
Also the toolbars in the tab- and in the statusbar should be in a separate extention.
(You already wrote this in another thread... But please keep it in another extention - I love it! :)

Ok, finally I decided to remove the "Download Embedded Files" feature, the "URL-Tools" button (and all included features like Google cache, Wayback, ...) and the "Top/Bottom" button in the 0.7 version. It's already done. And I will not develop any new extensions for these features. My time is just to limited and I think that there are enough other good extensions to do these jobs: e.g. Download Embedded, GoUp, Digger, Uppity, Gcache, Wayback, Back to Top
MrBusty wrote:But please keep them in a small extra extention - they are really fine!!!!

As said before: my time is too limited. But surely everyone can use my code to build a new extension from that. You're welcome.
MrBusty wrote:But 2 Pane Bookmarks should be integrated - it belongs direct to the sidebar.
I agree again. This will be a feature in the future.
MrBusty wrote:Maybe ez sidebar should also be integrated to aios, because it is a real sidebar-feature (maybe this is not so important
Mmh, I don't think so. The customizable panels will be an option in the future (at present my plan is to add these in 0. . But I think that the undockable sidebar is too problematic. It makes FF too slow and unstable - just my opinion.
MrBusty wrote:Also the toolbars in the tab- and in the statusbar should be in a separate extention.
Yes, the separate extensions are called Toolbar Enhancements, Toolbar Control or Status Buttons.
I will left the toolbar features until I coded an own toolbar customizing function, that will only work for the AIOS toolbar and which makes AIOS compatible with other customization extensions.
