Hi, I'm a passionate user of AioS and for sure a passionate user of Firefox. Therefore I'm using Firefox 3 RC1 unfortunately without AioS.

Will there be a compatible version in the near future?

Best wishes,
Alex

You can use the Nightly Tester Tools extension to make it compatible.

I've been doing it by hand all this time, my arms are tired. Wink

0) install 7-zip or other archiver and assosciate Notepad++ or other text editor with .rdf
1) unarchive mozext-0.4.8.xpi to a dirname same as filename minus extention so mozext-0.4.8 (same format as a zip, different extension)
2) bump version with extra dot, so I know I've bumped it (mozext-0.4.8 becomes mozext-0.4.8.1)
3) edit install.rdf, bump the extension addon version to match my custom folder name
4) bump the app version to match my currently installed as yet unofically unsupported beta/rc/patched app
5) select all files and add to archive created as a zip archive but with .xpi extension
6) put the new archive back where I put my other junk
7) install, restart firefox, enjoy life again

There's an easier way? Whoa, I'll look, thanks for the tip!

My way, I like to keep a backup of the original so I can recover quick if I do a bad edit or so. Wink

================

eXXile,

I enjoy AiOS very much. I've come to see why there's no updates, when FF3RC1 has been released so long now. As always, I fear a developer has an accident. Wink But no, you're alive, great!!!

I see from this post, you've got a lot of messy work planned to remove a cancer from your code. Wink It seems as if nothing to fear, most will not miss the functionality, and those who miss it can re-add it with another extension.

If any on here don't understand, this is rare, when a developer decides to remove a functionality and already it's available to add back before he's removed it. Most often, a developer removes a thing and it's gone forever. So, consider it lucky!

I look forward to a less bloated addon. I'm often about 400-500MB in memory for Firefox with dozens of pages open and dozens of extensions, old favorites, some I try for a while and see if I'll really use it, others I simply forget to remove. Twisted Evil

Best of luck, thanks for your efforts, AiOS has made Firefox a better browser and you made AiOS so you made FF better.

Sleep, I go bump my ugly head on my pillow, goodnight!

Idea

Turn off that light!

I still can't recommend that. Please do this only if you know what you are doing. But I'm sure you know it. Smile

I'm happily to know the cancer is curable. Very Happy But we will see if you still have nothing to fear if I perhaps cut off other features in the future. Twisted Evil

Like, this whole sidebar thing? It's just bloated, and really shouldn't be there. Just reduce the addon to.... wait.

No, seriously. I'm also inside RC#2 now, and I'll check these forums regularly (thank god it allows guest postings ^^) just to see if there's a test version already. Cause well, I don't have an option to show the download window at the moment (none but to start a new download), it wasn't necessary, the sidebar did it all ^.^ Don't think i'm trying to push you though, I could get this option back if I wanted (as I'fe already done with the Show Addons dialog menu entry).

I, too, think it's a good idea to remove the toolbar thing and it's good to hear things run well =D AioS has become a natural element of the UI for me; every time I update to a new browser testing version I think "what? the Mozilla team removed the sidebar?" just to learn once more I was actually missing AioS.

But as I said, no reason for you to hurry, I'm fine. I'm just looking forward to the new version. I hope it will be as great as I suspect.

(Okay, this was actually about posting a bad joke in reply to that evil phpbb2 smiley and now it turned into me babbling about how I love AioS ^^ sorry about that.)

I hope I will be able to upload a new version or a development build in the next days. Right now I don't know if the new version without all the toolbar stuff will be good enough to release it. At present it's a rough pre-alpha version, too many bugs for the public. But surely I want to release a good version which works with the upcoming Fx 3. The time is scarce. And I have too many other projects.

I *JUST* got used to having that sidebar there, especially since I've got a widescreen (what else do you do with all the extra space but use it for a sidebar :O) ), and firefox updated and ... NO SIDEBAR. I especially liked the fact that the stupid download window didn't pop up EVERY TIME I started a download. I didn't know how useful that sidebar was until I didn't get a chance to really use it.

Anyway, I hope the bugs are vanishing rapidly and you've got plenty of Raid Debug to get rid of the rest.

Another change of my plans...

You know that I planned to remove all the extra toolbar features from AiOS. That's the reason of this thread. Very Happy And that's still the plan and the work is going on. The extension without the toolbar stuff and with an own configuration possibility is now in an early alpha state. But the release of Fx 3 is very close and I simply have not the time to finish the work on AiOS in this month (and perhaps not in the next month). But I really have to offer all the users a compatible version of AiOS. Last but not least I need it for my own Firefox experience. Very Happy That's the reason why I decided to release AiOS 0.7.6, another version with all toolbar stuff which is compatible with Fx 3. One reason why that was not the original plan is the great extension by alta88 - TotalToolbar. This extension includes all the features which are still included in AiOS, but bloated the code. You could observe some strange changes of the GUI and also strange behaviors, if you install both extensions. But you will not get any serious problems. However, there is no need to use both extensions at present.

So please take this new version and know that it should be the last one with the toolbar stuff. I know - I said this one or two times in the past, but now I mean what I'm writing. Twisted Evil

Enjoy Firefox 3! I think it's a great new version of our favorite browser!

Thanks for the great add-on, I've been using it for ages on FF2.

I just downloaded 0.7.6 on FF3, it works a treat.
Many thanks for upgrading it to be compatible.

Any idea why it does not upgrade automatically like other add-ons like scapbook?

I just update my firefox to v3 and I was very disappointed that all in one did not work but after a few search I found 0.7.6 version and I was very happy . This is in my opinion the best add-on for firefox with multirows bookmark tool. Thanks a lot for this.
Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

hey great extension you made, and the forthoming changes sound logical. don't know if this is the right place to post a "petition" but i'll do it anyways, i use the sidebar so when i put my mouse in the left part of the browser it opens, and when the mouse moves back to the page, the AiOS closes, something like the auto-hide feature of windows start bar. however when i put the mouse to open AiOS the page i'm surfing adjusts it's size to fit to the new, smaller window; i wonder if you could add an option to make appear the AiOS without resizing the webpage. cheers and keep up the good work.

This is already planned for a future version.

Firefox 3.0 keeps telling me that (a) AiOS 0.7.5 is not compatible with 3.0, and (b) that there are no updates. I just checked myself, and installed the current version, which DOES (as you know) work. What is wrong with Firefox that it is behaving like this?

I think this was a problem of the file which was uploaded to Mozilla Update. I corrected this and now it should work.
